Around 95% of Thais follow the Buddhist way of life and as a result over 26,000 temples can be found within Thailand's borders. This charming half day tour introduces you to three of the most distinguished temples in Bangkok. Locally referred to as ‘Wats’ these buildings are beautiful examples of Thai architecture and are well worth a visit.

After a pick-up from your hotel, head through the bustling Bangkok streets to Wat Trimit, also known as the Temple of the Golden Buddha. Here you will find a three metre Golden Buddha statue, crafted from solid gold and weighing five and half tons. Now more than seven hundred years old the statue was originally covered in plaster to conceal it from the then invading enemy and was only discovered by chance from a layer of stucco during construction of the temple. **

The tour then takes you through Chinatown on your way to Wat Pho, more commonly known as the Temple of the Reclining Buddha. The temple dates from the seventeenth century and houses the largest Buddha in Bangkok. In addition to the fine features of the Buddha's face, also take a few minutes to inspect the soles of the Buddha's feet which lie an incredible 45 meters away from the head and have been inlaid with mother-of-pearl to display the 108 auspicious signs which distinguish a true Buddha.

The last temple on the itinerary is Wat Benchamabophit or the Marble Temple. A fine example of Thai craftsmanship, this magnificent monastery was built out of white Italian marble from Carrara in the late 19th century and is world renowned for its stunning architecture and decorative art.

Batu Caves & Temple Tour

No trip to Kuala Lumpur would be complete without visiting the spectacular Batu Caves. Set in a limestone outcrop, the cavernous interior is home to one of the most popular and sacred Hindu shrines outside of India and is reached by 272 steps.

Malaysia is multi-racial and multi-religion. This tour covers two unique and attractive places of worship. First is spectacular Thean Hou Chinese Temple. This striking, 6-tier temple is dedicated to the Goddess Tian Hou (the Heavenly Mother) and features elements of Buddhism, Taoism and Confucianism. The temple design is a successful blend of modern and traditional architecture. Afterwards continue to the magnificent Batu Caves.

Rising almost 100m above the ground and reached by 272 steps, the Batu Caves actually consists of three main caves and a few smaller ones. The biggest, referred to as the Temple or Cathedral Cave, has a 100 metre high ceiling, and features ornate Hindu shrines. Below the Temple Cave is the Dark Cave, a two-kilometre network of relatively untouched caverns with amazing rock formations. Stalactites jutting from the cave's ceiling and stalagmites rising from the floor form intricate formations such as cave curtains, flow stones, cave pearls and scallops which took thousands of years to form. The third main cave is the Art Gallery Cave located at the foot of the steps. Statues and wall paintings depicting Hindu deities and mythology are displayed here. The walk to the entrance is itself quite a pleasant experience past lakes and ponds filled with hundreds of colourful fish.

On the way back, visit a local Batik centre to see how the Batik being designed and made. The tour ends with a demonstration of fine jewellery-making by OE Design, near KLCC.

The story goes on to say that she bled white blood, and proceeded to curse the island for seven generations. The legend of Mahsuri makes for a great story and a tomb supposed to be hers is located in Kuab.

Eagle Square is Langkawi's most prominent landmark. Situated near the Kuah jetty it is a magnificent statue of a reddish brown eagle majestically poised for flight. According to local folklore, Langkawi derived its name from - the eagle or "helang". In old Malay, "kawi" denotes reddish brown - hence, Langkawi means reddish brown eagle! The square is beautifully landscaped and illuminated at night.
